CHOOSING THE BEST WAY TO DISPLAY PHOTOS IN YOUR HOME

You may not be aware but part of the experience of working with AdaLilly Photography is we can help design your at home wall display with our virtual design assistant!

Talking about prints and sizes, and where to hang and what to hang etc can be a tough and confusing decision. I mean talking about different kinds of paper and why we print on one vs another is something everyone should know right? No, we don’t expect you to know it all and part of the experience of working with ALP is that we love pampering our clients and being the experts in this area. After all it is what we do being a full service photography studio. We wanted to take the guess work out of choosing what to print and where to hang it, again taking you through a seamless transition through the entire experience. After all you’ll want your portraits to look their best in your home.

How does it work:

* Most of this is planned in the pre-session consult believe it or not. It’s partly how we decide on the backdrop to shoot your portrait on.

* Decide on a space in your home that you’d like to use as your ‘feature wall’ or space to showcase our work we just created together.

* Next, lets decide on print size(s)

* Then let me virtually design the look showcasing colours already in your home or more specifically the area these pieces of art are going to be enjoyed.

* Lastly we place your order together and await its arrival to share in your home with family and friends.

Some things to think about that we will discuss in detail at your ordering appointment.

Is the space large enough for 1 feature image or a collage of multiple images?

Pick your favourite images that you might like to see on your wall(s)

Its okay, we understand that you may have questions. We also understand that you may want to see more than one option. No problem! When hanging photos on your wall (framed or canvas) you can choose to hang a single photo, or a group of photos in a collage to change it up.

Fear not my friend! We have the answer (and no it doesn’t always involve going out and spending more money right away). Sometimes what you think may not compliment each other we see something different. That is why part of the service of hiring us as your family portrait photographer means we help style you! YES! We will take all the guess work out of styling your family portrait session right from the start. Thats right you leave it to us! We will make sure the props (if any), location, and wardrobe all come together seamlessly to create that one of a kind experience!

How does it work?

Its easy! During our pre-session styling consult you take us on a virtual like tour of your wardrobe via FaceTime or Zoom and we help tailor your family’s wardrobe precisely to fit your personalized portrait session.

Ladies, I have one more thing to pamper you with! Take the guess work out of your hair and makeup! Why? Because we’re including Hair & Makeup in all our sessions for one individual going forward! (Its the least we can do to show how much we love our clients and we personally believe we work with the best HAMU Artists in the city!)

ALP Client Guide – Spring & Summer Session Wardrobe

Dressing for a Spring & Summer Family Session

Spring

The birds are chirping, the buds are blooming, and the snow has officially melted. That means it’s time for your spring family session. Here are a few wardrobe tips to ensure the whole gang looks smashing:

Play up the fact that it’s spring. Have a necklace with a butterfly pendant? Perfect! An insect-printed tee? Yes, please.
Channel the colors of spring. While pastels are the most popular colour during Spring, other colours will work too. Seriously – look out the window for inspiration for your family’s colour palette or pin our colour client guide image below. Greens, pinks, yellows, beige, khaki, and blues all work exceptionally well.
Layer up! Spring can be both warm and cold at once, so come prepared. We love spring scarves, light cardigans, vests, etc.

Summer

It’s hot outside, but fear not. Here are some cool wardrobe tips to make sure your summer family photo session is a hit:

Wear light fabrics that let you breath, but still look polished. It’s OK to show some skin, too. Shorts are good, as are tank tops.
Really play up the summer accessory factor. I’m talking sun hats for the ladies and big sunglasses for all.
You can even bring summer-appropriate props that complement your outfits. Maybe it’s a beach ball, balloons, giant lollipop or messy ice cream cone.
Choose shoes that are comfortable and summery. Flip flops, loafers, open-toed pumps, even sweet sneakers on your kiddos.

Now that we’ve shared some of our favourite colour schemes and you’re still unsure, keep it simple! You can never go wrong with white cotton/linen blends. All we can say is #swoon

ALP STUDIO – WE’RE BACK!

We’re more than dancing over here we’re so excited!

We love our photography family & clientele and want to make sure your safety is first and foremost our priority. So while we’re preparing to re-open the studio on May 14, 2020 we wanted to give you a little sneak peek into our phase one policies. We feel comfortable enough to open during this phase and plan to do so safely providing we all follow these rules together.

A few points:

You’re more than welcome to wear a mask in the studio, however masks will not be supplied by ALP Studios.
We will have ample amounts of soap and warm water in an open washing area for you to utilize to wash your hands as you enter the studio.
We ask that if you should become unwell prior to your session please contact the studio and reschedule.
We don’t have all the answers so if for any reason we can’t answer your questions please refer to the AHS website regarding COVID-19.

TIP TUESDAY #10

We understand the struggle of not being able to get those very first tiny moments photographed by a professional right now. We are feeling the withdrawal too! So in order to combat that we wanted to share with you a few tips and tricks you can easily use with your babe until we can get you in the studio and create together.

Please remember SAFETY is a priority. Regardless of what positions you've googled, pinned, or seen other professional newborn photographers do, please do not attempt these on your own.

Look for the light. Where does it fall across your newborn.
Take photos when your baby(ies) are at their happiest. Be it at the beginning of the day or afternoon. We do notice however they're typically happiest in the morning after a good feed.
Get down to their level. As newborns typically sleep a lot in those first few weeks we recommend to try and capture those sleepy moments (make sure your babe is warm, full tummy and they feel secure)
Come in nice and close to capture all those perfect newborn features, such as their hands, and feet, and beautiful lashes or any stand out facial features you want to highlight the detail.
You made that beautiful little bundle so remember to be in photos with your baby. Take turns with your partner to photograph those special moments when you’re snuggling and being with your baby while they’re awake or when you’re rocking them o to sleep. When they’re older they’re going to love looking back at these amazing memories.
Turn off your flash. It can be very unflattering to your baby.
The busier the background the more distracting it can be and quite often take away from those purest moments and details, so keep it simple.
You can attempt to edit your photos using apps like Lightroom Mobile for a more finished look or you're welcome to send them to AdaLilly Photography and we'd be happy to assist you. (subject to retouching fee)
Go ahead and share your images.
Remember to print your photos so you have them forever.
Finally, don’t forget to backup your photos for safe storage.

Newborn Safety & Disclaimer

Do not try any newborn poses a regular professional newborn photographer would use. As Professionals we have been trained and some images while they may appear as if the baby is unattended they are not, those images are a composite image giving the illusion baby is upright on their own.

Liability: AdaLilly Photography is not responsible for any injuries inflicted upon any participating parties. Client(s) will be responsible for their children and themselves and release AdaLilly Photography from any claims against their person or their business.

MEMO MONDAY

Did you get the memo?

Good morning all!

First off we’d like to thank you all for sticking with us. We’ve had several changes over the last few months and still working through galleries created in that time.

We are heading into an even busier part of our season and wanted to touch base on a few key points of our business. While we know there are time frames for images, we sometimes have a larger wait time as we are growing and getting into busy seasons. We love each and every one of our loyal clients (YOU!) and want to ensure we do our very best on each gallery. We can not and will not break our policies to jump anyone ahead of the line. Unfortunately this just isn’t fair. We edit in the order the albums are created in session. Therefore no one will bumped ahead because they need a last minute image for said reason. It’s unfair to the ones who’ve booked in before.

So that being said, if you know you’re needing to book a scheduled session regardless of seasonal or not it is highly recommended that you do so in a timely manner, as such no less than 4 weeks is recommended for studio sessions. If you’re planning for a wedding please inquire, as weekend dates are booked 1 – 1.5years in advance and we may have a weekday available sooner than that.

Re-touching Services

This is first and foremost at the discretion of the photographer. We have added a change in our policies to this. You can find this under General Policies on our policies page. Should any retouching be requested after your gallery has been delivered please note you will be placed at the bottom of the list as you’ve received your full gallery of proof images at that time and others have not. There will be going forward a fee for any retouching services over and above 3 digital images. This is in detail in our Policies section on our webpage.

TIP TUESDAY #9

7 Tips for Preparing for Your Spring Session

With the first official day of spring literally a couple days away, we’ve gone ahead and given you some tips to ensure your day is stress free and flawless for your spring session. Listen up!

Wear layers. Spring can be finicky in the sense that you can go from frigid to over heated in a matter of minutes. We suggest wearing layers — tank top, tee shirt, cardigan, scarf, etc. That way each family member can peel off, or add, a layer as they see fit and remain comfortable throughout the session.
Location is a big deal. You better believe we’re going to take advantage of the fresh, warm air and all those bud popping up from the ground and in the trees. If you have any favorite locations, let us know. We have a nice list on hand, ourselves.
Play into the colours of the season when choosing your family’s outfits. Fresh pops of green, blue, pink and yellow are always a hit in the springtime. We recommend choosing a color theme for the whole gang, then slightly deviating from that with accessories to keep things interesting.
Speaking of accessories: wear them! Choose jewelry, scarves, or prints that play into the spring theme. Butterflies, flowers, insects, etc, can make for some super adorable family pictures.
Time it right. Book a session too early and you may miss out on those spring buds. Book too late and you’ve already wandered into summer territory. Keep an eye on the weather and give your photographer a call when the time is right.
Incorporate props. Spring offers some beautiful backdrops where props blend in perfectly. For example, old wooden chairs look stunning in a sea of blooming rose bushes, and a quilted blanket is lovely on the fresh, green grass. (ALP Studio offers some great props to choose from to bring to your session. These can be identified and selected during your pre-session planning consult).
Really think about your footwear. Spring can often mean a soggy ground, so flip-flops or heels are not the best choice. Instead, wear something that’s comfortable and spring appropriate, like loafers, flats or boots.

ALP ANNOUNCEMENT

With the world in fear and completely shutting down over COVID-19 I wanted to address what we’re doing and how we’re continuing to go forward right here in the studio.

We’ve always followed a standard of care in the studio but want to reassure everyone that we will continue to follow and exceed that standard. As of today we have bleached and disinfected everything again and will continue to do so. We have maintained hygiene and continue to wash our hands and refrain from touching faces. We plan to continue to remain open during the epidemic as we are not going to be terrified by what media has lead us to believe. We are listening to the health care professionals and the scientists who have been working with the virus. That being said, should you feel uncomfortable coming for your newborn, family, or any portrait session we understand. We ask that you please be aware of our studio policies. We do not offer refunds. We know currently in AB the risks are low, however due to the fear out there and your choice to rebook a session we are happy to transfer your session fee to another scheduled date.

Going Forward

We will be closely following the guidelines of the CDC to protect my studio and our families.
While I’ve always sanitized my studio, and all clothing touched after ever single session, we will continue to follow this practice.
Im an avid hand washer regardless but will continue to be one throughout and wash even a little bit more than we already do.
We will be disinfecting doorknobs and surfaces that don’t come in contact with babies and children.
We will be asking that everyone that walks into the studio to please wash your hands before proceeding with your session.

We ask that should you feel unwell, or be symptomatic in any way, get tested by simply dialling 8-1-1. AB health services are there to help! Communicate with us! Keep us informed. If you or anyone in your family coming for the session are immunocompromised, advise us. We WILL reschedule your appointment should you feel more comfortable in order to protect YOU!

While COVID-19 does not revolve around vaccinations etc, we want our clients to know we do take pride in making sure our healthy steps to run a healthy space are met so that we can protect those who can’t protect themselves.
